United Reports Increase in December Traffic, Capacity

DSC_0113United Airlines announced operational results for December 2016.  The carrier’s consolidated traffic, capacity, and load factor for the month were all up year-over-year.

Total traffic for the Chicago-based airline during the month of December was 17.149 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, an increase of 1.5% from 16.89 billion RPMs in December 2014.  The carrier’s total capacity for the month was up 2.2%, to 20.655 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, from 20.217 ASMs last December.

Meanwhile, United’s consolidated load factor decreased slightly, down 0.6 percentage points to 83% from 83.6% in December 2014.

In terms of international traffic, United saw a rise of 2.2%, while its international capacity increased by 3.5%.  The carrier also saw a 3.8% increase in domestic revenue passenger miles, with a 4.2% increase in domestic available seat miles.

Mainline RPMs rose 3% with an increase of 3.8% in mainline ASMs, while regional RPMs fell 8.4% with an 8.7% decrease in regional ASMs.
