In-flight Wi-Fi provider Gogo announced on Thursday a new option for air travelers who only want to use messaging services during flights.

The Gogo Messaging Pass will support a variety of messaging apps including Apple iMessage, Skype, Viber, and WhatsApp and is usable only on mobile devices. It does not support other functions such as e-mail or web browsing.

The price for the messaging pass is under $3 according to Gogo and can be purchased using a mobile device during the flight. The service is available on most Gogo-equipped flights in the United States and Canada.

By contrast, an all-day pass, useable on any Gogo flight within a 24-hour span, costs $16 and a one-hour pass costs $5.

Gogo’s justification for the new product is that “Some passengers simply want to continue conversations and stay connected in flight,” said Ash ElDifrawi, the company’s chief commercial officer.
