368C0610 (1)Facebook announced a tie-up with Uber that moves its Messenger product into transportation.   The move allows Facebook Messenger users to order a car from Uber without using the Uber app.

Using Messenger for this purpose is simple. Simply choose the “more” menu from within any conversation and select “Transportation” and Uber will come up as an option.   You can also search for Uber directly without going into a conversation.

Once you select Uber, you can either establish a new account or log in with your existing account credentials, opening up an Uber app-like experience within Messenger from which you can order a car, track its arrival, and pay for the ride.

Uber rolled out the Facebook Messenger service in 10 cities last week and bring the entire United States on line with it by Friday. It plans to add international support in 2016.

The San Francisco-based ride-sharing company would not respond to questions as to whether it was sharing revenue or paying Facebook a fee for the new service.
