American Airlines and the union representing 30,000 ground workers began contract negotiations in Dallas, Texas on Thursday.

The TWU-IAM Association is a labor alliance formed in response to the 2013 merger of American Airlines and US Airways by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which represented US Airways ground workers, and the Transport Workers Union, which represented their American Airlines counterparts.

The association said that this would be the largest ever joint contract negotiations with American and that it was seeking “the industry’s best contracts” following several quarters of record earnings

TWU-IAM will focus on job security, compensation, working conditions, and retirement issues in the negotiations, it said.
