My only use of the in-flight entertainment was the moving map, which I used to lull me to sleep. Each seat has a 15.4” monitor in a fixed position and a separate video controller is tethered to the seat. The system offers 180 movies, 250 television programs, and 350 music tracks.

We landed 40 minutes early and were at the gate within minutes of touching down. Thanks to the Germany’s biometric gates used for passport control, I was landside within fifteen minutes of deplaning and on my way to my hotel.

My first long-haul US Airways flight was a success, even if the exterior of the aircraft said American. The flight crew delivered a level of service that I associated with the golden age of flying (one flight attendant was heard discussing new uniforms, and bemoaned the fact that American would not give employees gloves going forward), seat comfort was quite good, and, perhaps most importantly, we arrived 40 minutes early. What more could I have asked for?
