Starbucks’ most popular seasonal coffee drink, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, has returned.  The drink, which many FBT staffers consider to be a sign of the waning of the summer season, was first offered 12 years ago.

However, Pumpkin Spice Latte fans are in for a surprise: for the first time, the drink will have actual pumpkin in it, in addition to the cinnamon, clove, ginger, and nutmeg that have characterized it over the years, and the caramel color is now gone.

Frequent Business Traveler was invited to preview the new version of the drink last week and our taster reported that the dusting of pumpkin spice made the beverage richer tasting while still letting the cinnamon, clove, ginger, and nutmeg flavors come through.

The drink – now available in the United States and Canada – will become available in nearly 50 countries in the Americas and Europe/Middle East/Asia regions this fall.

Starbucks is also in the process of rolling out its Mobile Order & Pay system to all stores in the United States.  The feature allows customers to place orders for pickup at a specific Starbucks location, bypassing the line at the store.  It was launched last December in Portland, Oregon.
