Southwest Sees Increase in Traffic, Capacity for August

DSC_0819Southwest Airlines announced operational results for August 2015.

The carrier’s total system traffic was 10.343 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 7.5% from 9.622 billion RPMs in August 2014.  The airline had a total system capacity of 12.106 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 7.6% from 11.252 billion last August.

Meanwhile, passenger load factor was down, dropping 0.1 percentage points to 85.4% from 85.5% last August.

Southwest estimates that its Prasm, or passenger revenue per available seat mile, will decrease by approximately 1% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2015.
