American Express Centurion Lounge at Miami International Airport – Review
Since American Express cards are now able to unlock the gates at a shrinking universe of airline lounges, to compensate, the company has started opening its own network of lounges at various U.S. airports.
The shiny new American Express Centurion Lounge opened in early June in the North Terminal of Miami International Airport near Gate D-12.
Miami is the fifth Centurion Lounge, after Las Vegas, Dallas, New York (LaGuardia), and San Francisco. It’s open daily, including holidays, from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. Its location in the D concourse, which is the terminal for most American Airlines flights, means that it’s accessible to American flyers without having to leave security, but those flying on most other airlines – including Delta, which I was flying – have to go through security twice. Fortunately, thanks to PreCheck, this wasn’t a concern.
Similar to the LaGuardia lounge, the reception area has a reception area with a green wall (a wall covered largely in vegetation). I received a very warm welcome upon arrival (all that was required to gain admittance was showing my American Express card) and was asked if I needed any assistance with my travel plans. .I did inquire about spa appointments but the earliest available slot would have been after I had to be at the gate.
INSIDE THE MIAMI CENTURION LOUNGE
The Miami Centurion Lounge was the second Centurion Lounge I’ve visited, having departed from LaGuardia a few days earlier. It’s easy to find and has some of the best lounge signage I’ve seen at an airport, creating an air of anticipation in the rotunda before guests ascend to the fourth floor to enter the lounge proper.
The lounge hosts an Exhale Spa, similar to the one in Dallas, where members can have a variety of 15-minute spa services including chair massages and manicures. High-speed Wi-Fi, personal computers, and private work spaces with noise buffering panels are provided throughout the lounge, as are electrical outlets that are never more than a few feet away. Other amenities include a family/children’s room, shower suites, and luggage lockers.
