2015 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD – Review and Test Drive
Honda, which sold the first mass-produced hybrid automobile in the United States but fell behind thanks to the popularity of the Toyota Prius, has a secret weapon for the hybrid market available at the Acura dealer nearest you.
It’s the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD and it combines the best attributes of a luxury sedan, hybrid, and supercar that money can buy. The car is literally a showcase for Honda’s engineers and they have done an excellent job in creating a package that is both luxurious and economical at the same time.
INSIDE THE ACURA RLX SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD
The RLX’ interior is restrained yet elegant and the car is one of the quietest we’ve seen or heard. Acura uses sound-insulating glass and noise-cancelling resonators in the wheels to achieve library-like silence. Seats provide excellent comfort and the cooling function was very welcome in hot and humid Miami.
There’s ample room both in front and back for four adults, but the middle seat will be cramped for a fifth. Trunk room is acceptable but limited. The car is nicely equipped and the optional soft, perforated leather upholstery and wood trim are quite elegant. The 14-speaker Krell sound system is excellent.
The exterior is bland but not offensively so, and the dual-screen infotainment system takes a bit of getting used to. The materials throughout the car are soft and luxurious and Honda clearly put considerable thought into this aspect of the car.
