Starwood announced that it will open a new Westin ski resort hotel in the Rusutsu resort region of Hokkaido, the second largest island in Japan, by December of this year.  The Westin Rusutsu Resort will be Starwood’s first ski resort property in the country.

The property will have 210 guestrooms and suites, with some suites offering up to seven beds for larger groups or families.  The hotel will also have a fitness center and tennis courts, as well as a hot spring, sauna, and outdoor baths.

Guests will be able to dine at three separate venues, while over 1,184 square feet (110 square meters) of meeting and event space will be available.

The region is known for its mountainous ski slopes, lifts, amusement park, and golf courses.  Located less than 90 minutes from Sapporo’s Chitose International Airport, the place is a popular destination for skiing and other winter recreational activities.
