DSC_0441Hertz announced plans to close its 24/7 hourly car rental unit.  The operation was previously known as Hertz on Demand and, earlier, as Connect by Hertz.

Citing weak demand, the Florida-based company, which operates in 145 countries, said it will exit the rental-by-the-hour business on August 31, 2015.

Hertz 24/7 was launched in December 2008 and has been available in major cities including New York, Berlin, London, and Paris, as well as on many university campuses.

In making the announcement, the company said that most customers preferred to rent cars for a period longer than 24 hours.
