American Airlines, Sabre Believed to Be Hit in Recent Computer Hacks from China
The world’s largest airline and a major travel reservations system company are believed to be the latest victims in computer hacking attacks tied to China.
American Airlines and Sabre appear to have been hacked by the same individuals or group that broke into computer systems at the U.S. government’s personnel office and health insurer Anthem, according to a new report by Bloomberg.
Bloomberg said that Sabre confirmed the breach. An American Airlines spokesman told Frequent Business Traveler by e-mail that the company was still conducting an investigation to determine if one had taken place.
“American has worked with outside cyber security experts who checked digital signatures, IP addresses and style of attack,” the company said in an e-mailed statement. At the present time, “there’s no evidence to suggest a breach similar to that experienced by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.”
American is not the only airline that has been hit by this group. On July 29, it was reported the United Airlines, the world’s second largest airline, had had its computer systems breached by hackers in the spring.
