Uber announced a flat rate charge of $10 for all trips within Manhattan and south of 96th Street.  The discounted rate applies to UberPool rides, the company’s ride-sharing service, even if the passenger does not end up sharing a ride with someone else.

The offer is in effect for a limited time although Uber did not specify when the promotion will end.  Uber says its goal with UberPool is to “take 1 million cars off the road in New York City” and relieve congestion.

Uber’s pricing in New York came as the company implemented surge pricing in London during a massive strike by London Underground workers.  The company is charging as much as three times the normal fare for rides in the city.

If you are not yet an Uber user, you can sign up here and get a free trip worth up to $20.
