InterContinental Hotels Group announced the launch Spire Elite, the new top-level tier for its IHG Rewards Club loyalty program.  Spire Elite replaces the hotelier’s old top tier, Platinum Elite.

The new level can be reached by IHG Rewards Club members by earning 75,000 qualifying reward points, or by staying at an IHG hotel for 75 qualifying nights over the course of a calendar year.  Benefits of the new tier include earning 100% extra bonus points on qualifying stays, or upgrading a friend or family to Platinum.

IHG says that the new tier will allow members to feel part of a special “club,” and that it will identify a guest as someone unique, “not just a number.”  The hotel company also said that the new tier is intended to provide a “thank you” to its best customers.

In addition to the introduction of the new top level tier, IHG announced that it restructured the qualifications for the other levels in its loyalty program.  Club-level members will now need to earn just 10,000 qualifying points or stay for 10 qualifying nights to be eligible for Gold-level membership, while Gold members will need only 40,000 qualifying points or stay for 40 qualifying nights to reach Platinum level.
