DSC_0991Bombardier announced a milestone in the production of its Q400 turbopro, the delivery of its 500th Q400.  The aircraft was handed over to WestJet Encore, a subsidiary of Canadian low-cost carrier WestJet.  The plane is one of 36 Q400s ordered by WestJet Encore and WestJet.

The Bombardier Q400 offers a 30% fuel burn reduction over similar turboprop airliners, and its high-speed cruise is 99 mph (160 km/h) faster than conventional turboprops.  The aircraft is the newest in the Q series family of aircraft.

WestJet Encore began service in June 2013, with flights to two destinations served by two Q400s.  The carrier now operates service to 24 cities with a fleet of 21 Q400s.

To date, there are over 60 operators of the Q400 in approximately 40 countries.
