Omni Hotels and Resorts announced the launch a new 24-hour hold function for reservations made through mobile devices.

With the new feature, a guest can hold a reservation at the published rate for up to 24 hours without having to guarantee the booking with a credit card. There is no penalty for cancelation within the 24-hour period.

Typically, a credit card is required to guarantee the booking.

To take advantage of the 24-hour hold, a guest would enter their name, e-mail address, and phone number, and will have the option to finalize their reservation online. Omni will send an email reminder, and if the reservation is not confirmed within the 24-hour time period, the reservation will automatically be released.

After a reservation has been finalized with a credit card, Omni’s cancelation policy, which allows for cancelations by noon on the day of arrival without any penalty, will still be in effect.

Omni said it decided to offer the option because its research shows that approximately 50% of guests research hotel reservation options from mobile devices, and then finalize the booking at a later time from a desktop computer.

Earlier this month, Omni launched a new promotion under which it offers to reimburse travelers for the cost of their checked golf bags during air travel when they stay check into an Omni property.
