Figures released on Monday show that Uber is making tremendous inroads in corporate transportation in major cities.

Last month, the ride-hailing app accounted for 47% of all rides expensed by employees of companies that use Certify, a provider of travel and expense software.  The percentage is a 33-percentage-point increase year over year. Uber competitor Lyft accounted for 1% of the total rides.

A comparison from the same period shows that the amount spent on taxis and car service rides fell by 33 percentage points, from 85% to 52%.

Uber usage in San Francisco, its first market, represents 71% of rides expensed by Certify users, up from 58%, while the use of conventional taxis there fell from 42% to 29%.

In New York and Chicago, however, two markets with a strong taxi culture, Uber is progressing more slowly.  In New York, 21% of Certify users expensed Uber rides while 79% used yellow cabs.  In Chicago, Uber usage has climbed 17 percentage points from 8% last year to 25% this year.

The Certify figures also showed that Starbucks was the most expensed restaurant by employees of companies using Certify.
