Aeromexico Sees Increase in March Traffic, Capacity

DSC_0051Aeromexico announced operational results for March 2015.  The Mexico City-based carrier saw a significant increase in both traffic and capacity, although it experienced a slight drop in load factor.

The airline’s total passenger traffic for the month was 2.604 billion revenue passenger kilometers, or RPKs, an increase of 13.8% from 2.289 billion RPKs in the same month last year.  In domestic traffic, the carrier saw a 5.2% increase to 906 million RPKs from last year’s 861 million RPKs while the airline experienced a 19% increase in international operations, with 1.699 billion RPKs as compared to 1.428 billion RPKs in March 2014.

The carrier had a total capacity of 3.313 billion available seat kilometers, or ASKs, a 15.6% increase from 2.866 billion RPKs in March of last year.  The airline’s domestic capacity was 1.163 billion RPKs, which represented a 6.2% increase over last year’s 1.095 billion.  Internationally, Aeromexico saw a 21.4% rise, up from last year’s 1.771 billion RPKs to this year’s 2.15 billion.

The airline’s total load factor for March decreased by 1.2 percentage points, down to 78.7% from last year’s 79.9%.  Aeromexico had a 78% domestic load factor, which was 0.8 percentage points lower than last year’s 78.8% while the carrier’s international load factor was 79.2%, down 1.5 percentage points from 80.7% in March of 2014.
