Hudson News Parent Dufry to Acquire World Duty Free for €1.3 Billion

DSC_0499Basel-based Dufry AG announced on Saturday a deal under which it will acquire World Duty Free S.p.A. for €1.3 billion ($1.42 billion).

The deal, which value’s Milan-based World Duty Free at €3.6 billion including debt, will result in a company that will run over 2,000 stores in airports and cruise ships.

World Duty Free is 50.1% owned by Edizione, a holding company that is controlled by Italy’s Benetton family.

Dufry runs the chain of Hudson News shops that are in many airports and last year acquired a competitor, Nuance Group, for 1.55 billion Swiss francs ($1.61 billion).
