Fraport AG, the owner and operator of Frankfurt Airport, announced traffic figures for February 2015.

The airport’s passenger traffic for the month increased 4.6% year-over-year in large part due to an increase in domestic traffic and a rise in the number of people traveling to tourist destinations in Europe and North Africa.  The airport operator also attributed the increase in traffic to a “non-recurrence of strikes.”

Even with the increase in traffic, aircraft movements at the airport were down by 1.5% to 34,611 takeoffs and landings, a figure that reflects the use of both larger aircraft and planes with higher seating densities.

The airport did however report an increase in maximum takeoff weight by 2.5% to more than two million metric tons, bringing the average MTOW per aircraft from 119.9 to 124.8 metric tons.

Cargo at Frankfurt, which includes air freight as well as airmail, increased by 1.8% to 162,068 metric tons.
