Etihad to Launch A380 with Residence Suite on Abu Dhabi-New York Route
Etihad Airways announced that it plans to deploy an Airbus A380, featuring the carrier’s Residence suite, on one of its two daily flights between Abu Dhabi and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The Residence is a 125-square-foot (11.6-square-meter) suite consisting of three rooms, located in the forward portion of the upper deck. The rooms include a living room, a private bathroom with shower, and bedroom. Each Etihad A380 has one Residence.
The living room has a 32” LCD monitor, a sofa, and two dining tables, while the bedroom has a 24” LCD monitor and double bed. The Residence is designed for one or two passengers.
Passengers traveling in the Residence will also have a dedicated Savoy Academy-trained butler. The butlers undergo a three-week course covering food and wine, international protocol and etiquette, VIP guest care, valet skills, and managing travel arrangements. They attend class for two weeks; the third week is spent in service at the Savoy Hotel in London
The Airbus aircraft also offers nine First Apartments, which are private spaces with a reclining lounge chair and ottoman, the latter of which converts to a separate, 80.5” fully lie-flat bed. The First Apartments are also equipped with 24” LCD monitors.
Etihad’s A380s also have 70 Business Studios on the upper deck. The aircraft offers passengers an opportunity to visit the Lobby, a lounge and bar area outfitted with leather sofas and a TV, located between the first- and business-class cabins.
The plane has 415 seats in economy.
The airline will operate the new A380 on flights departing from Abu Dhabi at 2:55 a.m. and arriving in New York at 8:40 a.m., and departing from New York at 3:00 p.m. and arriving in Abu Dhabi at 12:30 p.m. the following day. Etihad will continue to use a Boeing 777-300ER on its other daily flight between the two cities.
