Southwest Reports 2014 Results
In the fourth quarter, the carrier’s traffic, measured in revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, increased 4.3%, up to 26.77 billion RPMs from 25.65 billion RPMs in Q4 of 2013. Capacity, measured in available seat miles, or ASMs, increased 2.4% to 32.65 billion ASMs, up from 31.89 billion ASMs the previous year.
Load factor for the airline went up 82% in the fourth quarter, and increase of 1.6 percentage points from 80.4% in Q4 2013.
For the full year, Southwest’s total traffic was 108.04 billion RPMs, a 3.5% increase from 104.34 billion in 2013. The carrier’s capacity for the year was 131 billion ASMs, up 0.5% from 130.34 billion the previous year. Meanwhile, the airline’s load factor also increased, up 2.4 percentage points to 82.5% from 80.1% in 2013.
The company’s passenger revenue per available seat mile or PRASM, usually referred as ‘unit revenue’ rose 2 percent from last year.
