The first weekend of 2015 is upon us, the ball has dropped, the Champagne flutes emptied, and everyone is optimistic about the New Year. Now is a good time to catch up on all the things you didn’t have time to read during the week. We’ve compiled a few suggestions for you.

1.) Christian Stampfer visits the health-and-fitness conscious Even hotel in Norwalk, Connecticut. InterContinental Hotels Group’s newest brand encourages guests to take the stairs and go for runs, and each room has a private workout area in it.

2.) Robert Waldner looks at the decades-old tradition of watching Dinner for One before going out to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The 18-minute skit has been a favorite in Germany, Austria, and many other countries since the 1970s, and many people can’t celebrate Silvester without having dinner with Miss Sophie.

3.) Jesse Sokolow looks at the amazing history of Januarys past. From the creation of the National Geographic Society, to the first-ever scheduled commercial airline flight, to the debut of the A380 superjumbo, it’s all in there.

4.) Jonathan Spira test drives the brand new Kia K900 four-door sedan. The K900 represents the Korean automaker’s first foray into the luxury market and, while it has all of the requisite bells and whistles, he finds it will need far greater refinement in order to succeed in the market.

5.) Christian Stampfer takes the new Cadillac ATS coupe on a road trip in the United States. The car handles quite well, he reports, and many of its amenities, including a 4G LTE hotspot, were quite useful, although he didn’t really cotton to the Cadillac User Experience, or CUE, interface that controls the car’s secondary functions such as navi and audio.

The last week of the year was indeed a busy week for travel-related news, so here are a few more stories to read. Electric vehicles may not be as green as you have been led to believe, gas prices continue to fall in the United States, and the dollar hit record highs against all major world currencies.
