GETTING THERE

Visitors flying into Moscow may arrive at one of three airports. Sheremetyevo International Airport is located 18 miles (29 kilometers) from Moscow and serves 35 carriers, including Aeroflot and Delta Air Lines, which offer non-stop service from the United States. Domodedovo International Airport, Russia’s busiest, is located 26 miles (42 kilometers) from the city. In addition, Transaero Airlines operates non-stop flights from the U.S. to Vnukovo International Airport, which is located 26 miles (42 kilometers) from Moscow.

All three airports are serviced by Aeroexpress trains that connect with the Moscow Metro system.

Travelers may also take a taxi from any of the airports to the city, although be prepared for sticker shock given distances and traffic.

BOTTOM LINE

Sprawling and chaotic, Moscow is an astonishingly beautiful capital that attracts visitors throughout the year who come to see its unique architecture and cultural attractions.

Despite the temperatures (and winter weather starts in mid-October here), the city comes alive in winter with ice skating, festivals, troika rides, and images of Ded Moroz, or Grandfather Frost, the Russian version of Santa Claus and inside, treasures rich with history, culture and art abound.
