United Reports Drop in November Traffic
United Airlines announced operational results for November 2014. Both the carrier’s consolidated traffic and consolidated capacity for the month were down slightly year-over-year, while its load factor increased marginally.
Total traffic for the Chicago-based airline during the month of November was 15.282 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a decrease of 0.3% from 15.336 billion RPMs in November 2013. The carrier’s total capacity for the month also dropped by similar margins, down 0.4% to 19.137 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, from 19.220 billion ASMs last November.
United’s consolidated load factor, however, increased slightly, up 0.1 percentage points to 79.9% from 79.8% in November 2013.
While its total traffic and capacity were down, the airline did see an increase in international operations. United’s international traffic rose 3.6%, while its international capacity increased by 3.3%. Meanwhile, the carrier saw a 3.7% decrease in domestic revenue passenger miles, with a 3.8% decrease in domestic available seat miles.
Mainline RPMs dropped 0.3% with a decline of 0.4% in mainline ASMs, while regional RPMs decreased 0.9% with a 0.8 decrease in regional ASMs.
