New Aloft Hotel Opens in Detroit
Starwood announced the opening of the Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney hotel. The property is in close proximity to Comerica Park, the Arts and Entertainment District, and the Detroit Opera House.
The hotel has 136 guestrooms, each with 42” CD TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. An all-day grab-and-go food outlet is also located on the premises, as well as the brand’s signature W XYZ bar, where guests can enjoy live music performances through the Live at Aloft Hotels program.
The property has 6,670 square feet (619 square meters) of meeting and event space, and a 24-hour fitness center is available for guests.
The hotel is located in the David Whitney building, which was built in 1915. The building underwent extensive renovations before becoming an Aloft property, including the restoration of decorative exterior elements and the four-story lobby with a glass atrium.
The Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney is situated 22 miles from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The building itself is named for David Whitney Jr., a well-to-do Detroit lumber baron whose father was said to have been the employer of Paul Bunyan.
