Dyson DC59 Motorhead Cordless Vacuum

Dyson makes some of the best-engineered, best-constructed appliances in the world, and the DC59 is clearly in this league. It’s a good-looking, ultra-lightweight, cordless, cyclonic vacuum that converts from a stick vac to a handheld in just seconds.

The basic unit weighs only 4.6 pounds (2.08 kilograms) not including the attachments, which include an extension wand and floor-cleaning nozzle. Even with these attached, it’s incredibly light and portable. The attachments lock into place with ease and include a mini motorized cleaning head (great for drapes or upholstery), a combination tool, a crevice tool, and a removable wand.

While not even the DC59 can make housework fun, its ability to multitask as a powerful floor vac and a versatile handheld unit, combined with the convenience of its cordless design, makes it a great choice this holiday season.

Slingbox M1

Ten years after the debut of the original Slingbox, Sling Media’s M1 comes with built-in Wi-Fi so it can go just about anywhere in your home. It can stream live programs as well as those recorded on a DVR to mobile devices, supports high definition up to 1080p, and has an integrated IR blaster.

Its ability to access content from a set top box may be slowly becoming an anachronism, as offerings such as HBO Go and Showtime Anywhere become ubiquitous, but for the frequent traveler, it fills a need today. It also supports streaming to devices such as an Apple TV or Roku via the mobile app.

At a time when content licensing continues to be an obstacle to video streaming (just ask the folks at Aereo), the M1 is the ideal way of watching all of your content on your iPhone, Android phones, iPads, Android tablets, PCs, Macs, and connected TVs.

The company’s Lemon Verbena shampoo and conditioner, which is one of its four original fragrances, is found in InterContinental hotels across the globe, and several staffers at FBT have since become addicted to it. Try the Lemon Verbena Bath & Shower Gel and the Body Lotion for the best results. The Luxury Bath Bars, hand-wrapped in elegant paper, make a great gift as well.
