Southwest Reports Increase in October Load Factor

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for October 2014.

The airline’s total system traffic was 8.989 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, a year-over-year increase of 4.4% from 8.610 billion RPMs in October 2013.  System capacity for the month was 10.820 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, a slight decrease of 0.4% from 10.782 billion ASMs last October.

Passenger load factor increased 3.2 percentage points year-over-year, up to 83.1% from 79.9% in the same month last year.

The airline said that its passenger revenue per available seat mile, or Prasm, had increased by approximately 3% to 4% year-over-year.
