IMGP4630People Express, the new incarnation of an airline that started flying late in June from its base in Newport News, Virginia, was told Monday that it could no longer fly out of Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

Officials at the Peninsula Airport Commission, which runs the airport, told the airline that it could no longer operate there because of unpaid passenger charges, reportedly in the amount of $100,000.  The story was first reported in the Daily Press of Newport News.

In September, the airline announced it was temporarily suspending flights, but that it planned to recommence operations in mid-October.  It had not restarted any flights at the time of publication.

The airline last published an update on its plans on October 9, saying it had “a tentative agreement with an additional aircraft provider, which will enable us to enhance our platform, including the addition of a third aircraft as a spare.”  It also said it needed regulatory approval to resume flying.

The airline offered flights linking Newport News with Newark, Boston, and Pittsburgh.
