DSC_4538Etihad Airways and Alitalia announced that the two airlines will expand their codeshare agreement.

The Italian carrier plans to launch new daily flights between Abu Dhabi and both Milan and Venice on March 29 next year, which Etihad will be allowed to place its code on.

The new Abu Dhabi-Milan flights will depart Abu Dhabi at 8:45 a.m. and arrive in Milan at 1:25 p.m., with return flights departing Milan at 10:10 p.m. and arriving at 6:15 a.m. the next day.  Flights to Venice will depart at 9:05 a.m. and arrive at 1:35 p.m., with flights from Venice to Abu Dhabi departing at 9:55 p.m. and arriving at 5:55 a.m. the following day.

The announcement of the new codeshare flights comes a week after the European Union approved Etihad’s plans to acquire 49% of Alitalia.  The carriers said they plan to complete the transaction by the end of the year.

The two carriers already codeshare on flights between Abu Dhabi and Rome.  In addition, Etihad plans to codeshare on 15 of Alitalia’s routes from Rome next year, pending government approval.
