Southwest Airlines announced operational results for September 2014.

The airline’s total system traffic was 8.3 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, a year-over-year increase of 5.1% from 7.9 billion RPMs in September 2013.  System capacity for the month was 10.3 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, an increase of 0.7% from 10.2 billion ASMs last year.

Passenger load factor increased 3.4 percentage points year-over-year, up to 80.5% from 77.1% in the same month last year.

The airline’s passenger revenue per available seat mile, or Prasm, increased by approximately 5% year-over-year.

The carrier also released third quarter operational results.  Total system traffic in Q3 was 28.5 billion RPMs, a 5.6% increase over Q3 2013.  System capacity increased 1.1% to 33.8 billion from 33.4 billion in Q3 2013, and the third quarter load factor was 84.4%, compared to 80.8% in 2013.
