Report from Paris: Infiniti Flagship and Ducati-Powered VW
On the eve of the start of the 2014 Paris Motor Show, several automakers got a jump on the show’s opening with private unveilings of their concept cars.
Infiniti showed off its Q80 Inspiration concept, a very large luxury flagship, Wednesday evening.
“Q80 Inspiration is a concept vehicle, but there is a production intent associated with it,” said Francois Bancon, a vice president at the automaker, in introducing the vehicle. “The naming of the car indicates that something like the Q80 Inspiration will be in our portfolio of the future. This vehicle will inspire all of our future products.”
He added it “was born to disrupt the premium sedan category.”
Meanwhile, Volkswagen unveiled the XL Sport, based on the XL1 economy concept vehicle. The XL Sport bridges the world of car and bike as it’s powered by the same 197-horsepower two-cylinder engine found in the Ducati 1199 Superleggera.
Ducati was purchased in 2012 by Audi’s Lamborghini unit. The Superleggera is the world’s most powerful motorcycle according to VW.
