BMW unveiled the new 2 Series Convertible as well as the new X6.  The 2 Series Convertible is the successor to the 1 Series Convertible.  The new drop-top starts with the 2 Series Coupe, with similar powertrain options, and adds open-air touring to the mix.

The new BMW X6, while fully recognizable as such, shows the influence of the new X4 in its rear and the front shares its grille, hood, and headlights with the new X5.

BMW also put its next generation diesel engines on display.  Destined for the 5 Series, the new 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engines are more fuel efficient and more powerful.  They will be available in the 518d and 520d in many of BMW’s markets but are unlikely to make it to the United States.

Mercedes-Benz revealed the AMG GT Edition 1, a Porsche-911 competitor that stands out from the standard AMG GT with its fixed rear wing and new alloy wheels.

The Stuttgart-based automaker also showcased the C63 AMG sports sedan and wagon.  The standard model comes with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that develops 476 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, while the C63 S’s motor produces 510 horses and 516 pound-feet of torque.

Audi debuted the TT Sportback, a sleek four-door with an elongated roofline and a liftback rear, powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that develops 395 horsepower.

The folks from Ingolstadt also showed off the mid-life refresh of the A6 sedan, which was all-new for 2012.  Changes include minor tweaks in the front end including a revised grille and slimmer headlights, while the rear has a new bumper with rectangular exhaust outlets and new, more dramatic taillights.

Finally, Lamborghini unveiled its first plug-in hybrid, the Asterion LPI 910-4 concept.  The all-wheel-drive Asterion, capable of going from a standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) in three seconds with a top speed of 200 mph (321 km/h), can also go 30 miles (48 kilometers) solely on electric power.  The combination of the 5.2-liter V-10 engine and three electric motors gives the Asterion a total horsepower output of 910.
