Kempinski Hotels announced that it will take over the management of what is currently the InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden in the coming year.

The hotel, owned by the Bayerische Landesbank, has 138 rooms and suites.

The property is set on a small plateau overlooking that Nationalpark Berchtesgaden in Berchtesgadener Land, Bayern (Bavaria), immediately adjacent to Salzburg, Austria.  The park itself has five mountain ranges and it is a mixture of mountains, woodlands, rock, and alpine pastures.  It was built on a site of a mountain retreat originally used by Field Marshal Hermann Göring.

The hotel has three restaurants, six meeting rooms with natural light and views of the Alps, as well as an outdoor event space for up to 4,000 guests.  It also has a heliport, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, and a spa.

Kempinski plans to take over management of the property in the first half of 2015 but did not announce a specific date.
