Dominican Republic Jazz Festival Announces 2014 Set List

DSC_0372The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival recently announced plans for its 2014 season, which will take place from November 6 to November 9. This marks the 18th annual festival presented by the Dominican Ministry of Tourism.

The festival, located in the North part of the island in towns such as Puerto Plata, Sosua, and Cabarete, offers four free nights of concerts for music lovers. The festival is also affiliated with Fedujaz, a non-profit organization that provides music education for the Dominican youth.

On November 6, the festival will be held at Independence Park in Puerto Plata. On November 7, it will be held at Hotel Casa Marina Amphitheater in Sosua, and on November 8 and 9, the festival take place at Cabarete beach in Cabarete.

The festival has been known for its great performers in the past such as Chuck Mangione, Ray Barreto, Cuco Valoy, and Arturo Sandoval. This year, Grammy Award winner Joe Lavano will perform with Joe Lavano’s Quartet. Other musicians, such as the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Colin Hunter and Joe Sealy’s Quartet, Ramon Vazquez Trio with Edmar Colon and Danny Diaz, Ignacio Berroa’s Quartet with special guest Giovanni Hidalgo, and Big Band Conservatory of Santo Domingo, along with many more, will also be performing.

Although the concerts are free, VIP tickets are also available. These tickets include priority seating, complimentary beverages, and many other benefits that support the Fedujazz and its musical workshops for the youth.

In case you cannot make it to the festival, BwaKore, a Carribean Jazz ensemble, will be performing on October 11 at Parque Mirador in Sousa, Dominican Republic.
