Starwood announced it will launch SPG Pro, a new loyalty program for businesses and travel professionals, in October.

Under the new program, meeting planners and travel professionals or agents who book business-to-business (B2B) events at any Starwood property worldwide will be eligible to receive SPG elite status, upgrades, and Starpoints.   Starwood is targeting what it says is the 34% of its Platinum members who are managers and executives who book conferences and meetings.

In addition, individual SPG members who are not professional meeting planners who nonetheless book group stays, events, or business meetings will also receive status and Starpoints for the business that they influence.

Meeting and travel professionals can register for SPG Pro on Starwood’s SPG website and can begin earning rewards next month.  Individuals who send business to Starwood properties can use their own SPG membership numbers to obtain credit for referrals.  The number of Starpoints per dollar of revenue as well as the maximum number of points that can be earned will vary based on the individual’s status level within SPG.

The new program also marks the first time that accredited travel agents will be able to earn Starpoints for bookings made for clients.
