SONY DSCStarwood announced it will open a new hotel in the small town of St. Helena in California’s Napa Valley in the fall of 2015. The former Grandview Hotel and Spa will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation to become Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Napa Valley.

The new hotel will have 57 guestrooms and suites, with seven rooms located in the main Acacia House building, and the remaining rooms distributed among several multi-unit cottages. The property will also include a restaurant, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a spa, and 3,500 square feet (325 square meters) of meeting and event space including a grand ballroom.

The new property is located next door to the Beringer Wine Estate vineyards, and within walking distance of many restaurants, shopping boutiques, and art galleries in downtown St. Helena. The hotel will also be located in close proximity to both Sonoma County Airport and Napa County Airport, and 76 miles (122 kilometers) from San Francisco International Airport.

Starwood currently owns and operates 85 Luxury Collection hotels in more than 30 countries worldwide. Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Napa Valley, will be the fourth such property to open in California.

The Luxury Collection had its origins when ITT Sheraton took control of Ciga, an Italian hotel chain, in 1994, and became ITT Sheraton Luxury Hotels. When Starwood acquired Sheraton in 1998, it formed the Luxury Collection and expanded it. Hotels in this group tend to be smaller and many are in historic buildings.
