A king-sized bed with a tall mahogany headboard and inlaid veneer design dominated the main room. The bed’s mattress was firm and quite comfortable. A square night table to the bed’s side was adorned with a traditional lamp; a round night table on the opposite side of the bed sported a decidedly contemporary lamp, radio, and telephone.

Beyond the bed was a club chair, matching ottoman and floor lamp with easy view of the balcony. A chest of drawers and a flat-screen television completed the picture. Overall, the room was quite comfortable and conveniently located.

The bathroom was small but serviceable with a combination tub and shower stall and walls clad in beige and brown marble. The single sink was also set in marble with amenities from Peter Thomas Roth, and both a telephone and hair dryer were wall-mounted next to the commode. Lighting was adequate though not especially bright; terry robes were also provided.

The work area of the room was conducive to work on the road, particularly welcome was a rolling ergonomic chair. The desktop was spacious with a pair of easily accessible electrical outlets. Desk lighting was convenient and, combined with the ambient room lighting, made for a comfortable environment.

The complimentary Wi-Fi worked well and was accessible seamlessly throughout the hotel, including restaurants, meeting rooms and lobby area.

The Hilton Istanbul exhibits a dual personality, a tourist getaway as well as a full-service business and convention destination. The hotel features a dedicated area with business center and a broad selection of meeting rooms that can accommodate board meetings, theatre and classroom-style seating, receptions, dinner/dancing and even ballrooms. When we visited, the hotel had just completed an extensive renovation of the meeting facilities which looked new and inviting.

Next to the hotel and linked to it by a covered walkway, is the standalone convention center and exhibition area. The upper hall alone can seat 1,500 guests for meetings or a reception.
