The Calgary Marriott Downtown announced it will begin extensive renovations on the property in October.  The work is expected to be completed by next spring.

As part of the refurbishments, the hotel’s lobby will become bigger, with new seating areas and a reconfigured check-in area.  In addition, a new Starbucks will also open in the lobby area.

The guestrooms are being redone although no details were released about the new design.  Bathrooms in each of the hotel’s 384 guestrooms will also receive upgrades, with new sliding barn doors.  Many of the bathrooms will also have the bathtubs replaced with showers.   New card-reader technology will also be installed.

The property’s existing restaurants will have their seating areas expanded and interiors redone.  In addition, the hotel plans to open a new Canadian-themed restaurant and whiskey bar.

The hotel will also add an additional 4,000 square feet (371 square meters) to its existing 7,075 square feet (657 square meters) of meeting and event space.  In addition, the property will become the first in Canada to house an M Club Lounge, Marriott’s signature lounge concept.

In the course of the renovation project, all existing carpeting will be recycled in some fashion and the hotel is also installing water-saving toilets, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems in an effort to lower the property’s toll on the environment.
