Southwest Sees Increase in July Traffic

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for July 2014.  The carrier’s passenger traffic, capacity, and load factor all increased during the month.

System traffic for July was 10.633 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, a year-over-year increase of 6.6% from 9.977 billion RPMs in July 2013.  Capacity also rose by 2.6% year-over-year to 12.259 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 11.949 billion ASMs last year.

Passenger load factor in July was 86.7%, a year-over-year increase of 3.2 percentage points from 83.5% in the same period in 2013.

The airline’s passenger revenue per available seat mile, or Prasm, increased by approximately 4% year-over-year.
