DSC_0825Mechanical problems with his Air Force jet forced Secretary of State John F. Kerry to fly commercial on Thursday.

Kerry’s Air Force Boeing 757, which has carried the secretary of state over 519,136 miles (835,468 kilometers) in the past five months based on State Department figures, required repairs and was therefore unavailable to fly him back to Washington, D.C. from Honolulu, according to a report in the Washington Post.  He returned to the nation’s capital on a United Airlines flight several hours after his originally scheduled departure.

“Finally, some frequent-flier miles,” Kerry reportedly said when told of the change in itinerary.

Kerry’s latest trip had taken him to Afghanistan, Myanmar, Australia, the Solomon Islands, and Hawaii.
