WestJet Reports Traffic Up in June, Second Quarter

DSC_0505WestJet Airlines announced operational results for the month of June, as well as for the second quarter of 2014.

The airline’s traffic last month was 1.572 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, a year-over-year increase of 5% from 1.497 billion RPMs in June 2013. Total traffic in the second quarter also rose, up 5.5% to 4.930 billion RPMs from 4.675 billion RPMs in the same period last year.

Capacity in June also increased by 4.3% year-over-year, to 2.032 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 1.948 billion last June. The airline’s capacity for Q2 was 6.193 billion ASMs, an increase of 5.2% from 5.888 billion ASMs in Q2 of 2013.

Passenger load factor also increased in June of this year, up 0.6 percentage points to 77.4% from 76.8% in June of last year. Load factor in the second quarter was 79.6%, a year-over-year increase of 0.2 percentage points from 79.4% during the same period last year.

In addition to the year-over-year improvement in performance, WestJet also reported a new single-day record on June 27, when the airline transported over 63,000 passengers.
