United Second Quarter Profit Up 68%

United-Continental Holdings announced financial results for the second quarter of 2014.
The Chicago-based airline reported a profit of $919 million, a 51% year-over-year increase. Including special charges, net profit was up 68% at $789 million, compared with $469 in Q2 2013. Revenue was up 3.3% to $10.33 billion.
Passenger revenue per available seat mile rose 3.7%.
Passenger traffic in Q2 showed a 0.6% increase and capacity was down by 0.1%. The airline’s load factor increased to 85.3% from 84.9%.
