United Airlines announced operational results for June 2014.  The Chicago-based carrier said its consolidated traffic was virtually unchanged year-over-year, while its consolidated capacity increased 0.8%.  The airline’s consolidated load factor was down 0.6 points compared to June 2013.

Total system traffic was 19.12 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, unchanged from June 2013.  Meanwhile, total capacity was up by 0.8% to 21.96 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 21.79 billion in the same period last year.

The airline’s total load factor was 87.1%, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points from 87.7% in June 2013.

In a separate regulatory filing, United said its second-quarter consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile increased approximately 3.5% over the second quarter of 2013.  The figure exceeded the company’s previous expectations and the improved numbers were due largely to better than expected performance in the airline’s Pacific and Domestic operations.
