DSC_0072The Ukrainian government said that a Russian plane had shot down a Ukrainian fighter over Ukrainian airspace on Wednesday, an accusation that brought no confirmation or denial from the Russian government.

“Military aircraft of the Russian Federation carried out a rocket attack on a Su-25 plane of the armed forces of Ukraine, which was on a mission in Ukraine,” said Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council.  As a result of the attack, “our plane was shot down.”

The pilot ejected without any injuries and was reportedly safe.

On Monday, Ukraine accused Russia of attacking an Antonov-26 military transport plane.

Earlier today, a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 jet was reportedly shot down while over Ukraine’s airspace.  Almost 300 people died in the crash.
