JetBlue Reports Substantial Rise in Q2 Profit

JetBlue Airways announced financial results for the second quarter of 2014.  The airline’s profit in the second quarter was $230 million, a year-over-year increase of $194 million during the second quarter of 2013.

Revenue in the second quarter also rose year-over-year by 12.4%, up to $1.372 billion from $1.222 billion in the second quarter last year.  Passenger revenue per available seat mile, or Prasm, also increased by 6% year-over-year.

The airline’s passenger traffic in the second quarter was 9.632 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, up 5.7% from 9.115 billion RPMs in the second quarter of 2013.  Capacity also rose 6% year-over-year, to 11.386 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 10.741 billion ASMs last year.

Meanwhile, passenger load factor in the second quarter decreased by 0.3 percentage points, down to 84.6% from 84.9% in the same period last year.
