United Installs Automated Passport Control Kiosks at Newark Liberty
United Airlines announced it has installed 20 new Automated Passport Control, or APC, kiosks in the customs area of Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The kiosks allow passengers arriving at the airport to complete their own customs declarations instead of filling out a U.S. Customs and Border Protection 6059B form. To use the kiosk, passengers scan their passports and follow a series of on-screen instructions in order to obtain a receipt confirming their identity and flight information, which they then present to a customs officer for final processing.
The new kiosks are designed to expedite the customs screening process for travelers and reduce wait time in customs. All international passengers with a U.S. or Canadian passport are eligible to use the kiosks, free of charge.
In addition to the 20 units already installed, United plans to roll out 10 more APC kiosks at Newark Liberty in the coming weeks. The airline has already introduced the kiosks at airports in Chicago and Houston over the past year.
