Southwest Airlines announced operational results for May 2014. The airline’s system traffic and load factor for the month both increased, while its capacity was slightly down from the same period last year.

System traffic for May 2014 was 9.40 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, up 0.6% from 9.35 billion revenue passenger miles in May 2013.

Southwest’s capacity however, decreased, down 1.5% to 11.24 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 11.41 billion last year.

The airline’s load factor was 83.7%, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from 81.9% last year.
