The Transportation Security Administration has opened an enrollment office at Boston Logan International Airport where travelers can apply to use expedited security lanes.

Individuals who are accepted will be able to use the TSA’s PreCheck trusted traveler lanes.  PreCheck is a program that allows travelers to keep their shoes, belts, and light jackets on and leave laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags.

The application process allows U.S. citizens and permanent residents to pre-enroll online and then complete the process at an application center.  The last step includes providing fingerprints and a valid form of identification.  The program costs $85 and membership is valid for five years.

Boston’s new TSA PreCheck application center is located inside Terminal A after security and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.

PreCheck is available at 118 airports across the United States for passengers travelling with most major U.S. airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, and Virgin America.  The first foreign carrier to offer PreCheck, Air Canada, recently announced its passengers are also eligible, and other foreign airlines are expected to follow.
