Southwest Traffic, Load Factor Up for April

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for April 2014. The airline’s system traffic and load factor for the month both increased, while its capacity was slightly down from the same period of last year.

System traffic for April 2014 was 9.1 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, up 4.4% from 8.7 billion revenue passenger miles in April 2013.

Southwest’s capacity however, decreased, down 0.6% to 11.1 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 11.2 billion last year.

The airline’s load factor was 81.7%, an increase of 3.9 percentage points from 77.8% last year.
